Задание №8840.
Чтение. ЕГЭ по английскому
Установите соответствие между заголовками 1 — 8 и текстами A — G. Используйте каждую цифру только один раз. В задании один заголовок лишний.
1. Health benefits of hobbies
2. Dangerous hobby
3. Look to your past
4. Finding excitement
5. Time out with a purpose
6. Finding a hobby that suits you
7. Finding time for your hobby
8. Making new friends
A. Hobbies provide work-free and responsibility-free time in your schedule. This can be especially useful for people who feel stressed by all that they have to do and need to recharge their batteries. For some of us it may be difficult to give ourselves permission to just sit and relax. Having a hobby, however, can provide a break and help people feel that they’re not just ‘sitting around’ but are using their free time for something productive.
B. Are there things you enjoyed as a child that you might still enjoy as an adult? Maybe you had a fantastic record collection, loved to make clothes for your dolls or were always out on your bike. Those are all things you could pick up again as an adult that would make great hobbies. Or there may be hobbies in your home right now that you started but have recently forgotten about. Maybe it’s time to finish that crochet project or pick up the guitar again.
C. If you’re adding a new thing into your life, you have to take time and focus away from something else. The good news is that most of us have a lot of time we’re not using well, either because we’re spending a lot of time online or watching TV or just wasting time we could be spending on our hobbies. See if you can spend a half hour or so every other day to explore your interest. This way it would be best in case you find that hobby isn’t for you after all.
D. Of course, everyone is different and your personality does play a role in what sorts of hobbies you’ll like. If you don’t have a lot of patience you might feel that knitting is too much for you, but exploring quick sewing projects might be a better choice. Maybe you really like being with friends, so you need to take a class or have an interest that you can do with a group. If you travel a lot, something portable or that you can do anywhere is helpful.
E. One study found that those who engage in physical leisure activities for at least 20 minutes once a week are less likely to have a fatigue. Other research found that enjoyable activities performed during leisure time were associated with lower blood pressure, total cortisol, and body mass index, and feelings of better physical function. Such activities were also associated with higher levels of positive psychosocial states and lower levels of depression.
F. When you look for material or equipment for your hobby, you are likely to find people who have the same hobby as you. You may be surprised to know how serious some people are about their hobbies and therefore would have great knowledge of their chosen pastime. Instead of meeting people from your work or college or those whom you have grown apart with, it is a great way to meet people with whom you have something in common.
G. For those who aren’t very stressed and may actually be understimulated, hobbies provide a nice source of eustress, the healthy kind of stress that we all need to remain feeling happy about life. If the rest of your life is somewhat dull or uninspiring, hobbies can provide meaning and fun, and can break up a boring schedule, without feeling like work. In other words, hobbies can provide just the right amount of challenge.

INTRODUCTION
Hi, Olga! Hope the photos I have found are good illustrations for our project “Weekends in the summertime”. Let me give you some reasons for my choice.
- explain the choice of the illustrations for the project by briefly describing them and noting the differences
The two photos show popular weekend activities people enjoy doing in summer: sunbathing and hiking. In photo 1 there is a family sunbathing at the seaside. They are having a good time and a lot of fun looking relaxed and happy. Photo 2 shows two people enjoying the sunset from the top of a mountain. They seem to be admiring the panoramic view.
One noticeable difference lies in the places where the people are spending their summer weekends: a coastal environment in photo 1 and a mountainous area in photo 2. Besides, the weekend activities presented in the photos differ: lying in the sun compared to hiking in the mountains.
- mention the advantages (1–2) of the two ways of spending a weekend in summer
Understandably, whatever weekend choices are made, they are not perfect, and there are always pluses and minuses. On the plus side, going to the beach for the weekend is a great way to relax as it looks like a natural spa treatment. Speaking of hiking in the mountains as a summer weekend, one of the advantages is a fantastic workout that can improve mental health and reduce stress.
- mention the disadvantages (1-2) of the two ways of spending a weekend in summer
On the minus side, sunshine increases the risk of sunstroke and sunburn. As for hiking, despite its great benefits, it looks dangerous and challenging as there are risks in the wild. Also, hiking requires some technical skills and proper equipment which is heavy to carry, especially uphill.
- express your opinion on the subject of the project – which way of spending a summer weekend you would prefer and why.
Personally, I would prefer to spend a summer weekend hiking across spectacular landscapes as I’ve always looked for adventure and my love for hiking tours has always been with me since my early childhood.
CONCLUSION
That’s my reasoning, Olga. I wonder what you think about the photos. Bye for now.
Hobbies are often thought of as activities for people who lead quiet, relaxed lives, but people with full, busy, even stressful lives may need hobbies more than the average person. Hobbies bring many benefits that usually make them more than worth the time they require. Here are some of the advantages of having hobbies.
Health Benefits of Hobbies
One study found that those who engage in physical leisure activities for at least 20 minutes once a week are less susceptible to fatigue.
Other research found that enjoyable activities performed during leisure time were associated with lower blood pressure, total cortisol, waist circumference, and body mass index, and perceptions of better physical function. Such activities were also correlated with higher levels of positive psychosocial states and lower levels of depression and negative effect.
Ultimately, the benefits of hobbies, both psychologically and physically, are worth exploring. Find something you enjoy engaging in and you create time for yourself and your health!
Taking a Break
Hobbies provide a slice of work-free and responsibility-free time in your schedule. This can be especially welcome for people who feel overwhelmed by all that they have to do and need to recharge their batteries by doing something they enjoy.
For those who feel overwhelmed by responsibility, it may be difficult to find the time or give themselves permission to take a break from a busy schedule and just sit and relax.
Engaging in hobbies can provide a break with a purpose, which can help people feel that they’re not just sitting around but are using their downtime for something productive.
Either way, hobbies provide a nice break during a busy week.
Experiencing Eustress
For those who aren’t overly stressed and may actually be under-stimulated, hobbies provide a nice source of eustress, the healthy kind of stress that we all need to remain feeling excited about life.
If the rest of your life is somewhat dull or uninspiring, hobbies can provide meaning and fun and can break up a boring schedule without feeling like work. In other words, hobbies can provide just the right amount of challenge.
Having a Social Outlet
Many hobbies lend themselves to group activities: golfing rotations, knitting circles, and creative writing groups are good examples.
Hobbies that connect you with others can bring the added benefit of social support, which can bring stress relief and meaning to life in a fun way. The friends you have fun with can become some of your best friends, so hobbies that bring you closer to others are well worth your time.
Enjoying Positive Pleasures
Positive psychology, a relatively new branch of psychology that studies what makes life worthwhile, has discovered that pleasures—activities that bring fun to life—can be wonderful for relaxation and enjoyment of the moment.
Pleasures can bring a lift to your mood. Since hobbies generally incorporate pleasures into your life, maintaining hobbies can be good for your overall sense of joy.
Receiving Gratifications
Also from positive psychology, gratifications are important activities that bring meaning and fun to life. Gratifications present the kind of challenge that requires us to use some of our best personal skills and engages us in a sense of flow, which can put us in a near-meditative state where we lose track of time and feel removed from the stressors of life, and fully engage in what we are doing.
Gratifications can lead to a reduction in stress and a sense of well-being, and hobbies are usually experienced as gratifications. If you want more happiness and fewer stress experiences in your life, hobbies provide a direct route to gratifications that can lead to this.
Staving Off Burnout
Hobbies bring a sense of fun and freedom to life that can help to minimize the impact of chronic stress. Those who feel overwhelmed at a job, for example, can benefit from hobbies because they provide an outlet for stress and something to look forward to after a hard day (or week) at a stressful job.
Some research shows that those who are in stressful jobs that normally contribute to burnout (low-control, high-demand jobs, for example) feel less of a need to «recover» from their day at bedtime if they have more physical or social leisure activities that aren’t work-related—or in other words, more hobbies.
In this study, those who had a need to «recover» at bedtime were more likely to suffer from negative health and wellness outcomes like psychosomatic complaints and fatigue.
In other words, hobbies can help buffer the effects of a stressful job and mitigate factors that contribute to burnout.
A Word From Verywell
You might experiment with a variety of different hobbies to discover what you love and what works for you. Take a class, learn a new skill, or make it a goal to try a new activity each week. From making crafts to collecting coins, the more you explore, the more likely you are to find a hobby that you love.
