Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.
A hobby is an activity you enjoy doing, it is something of your choice, something unique to your taste and talent. A hobby can improve our well-being; it can give more meaning to our life. Just as physical exercise is important for the body, relaxation of the mind is also essential.
In fact, studies reveal that people who cultivate themselves through such activities are less likely to suffer from anxieties, depression and other negative feelings. A hobby is the easiest way to restore your balance whenever you are over-worked or stressed. Since it is an activity of your choosing, it will always give you pleasure and help you to relax. Even if you indulge in your hobby for a short period of time, you still can feel the difference in your energy level and spirit. When you have a hobby, you will always find time for it.

1) I’m going to tell you about my hobbies.
I study at school and I don’t have much free time. But I still have some things I like doing, for example, reading books, watching films on the Internet, writing my blog about everything important for me, writing short stories and dancing.
I like writing short stories because it helps me to express myself. I’m fond of dancing because it’s beautiful and it helps me to keep fit. I’m crazy about reading books as it’s very interesting for me.
My hobbies are very useful. Dancing helps me to find new friends and to become less shy. With the help of reading I get new ideas for my short stories and reviews in my blog. Reading makes me literate and I have no problems with Russian language.
Hobbies help people to develop themselves.

2) I’m going to tell you about my hobbies.
In my free time I like relaxing and creative activities. That’s why my hobby is handwork. I like knitting, embroidery, kanzashi (a kind of handwork that has come from Japan) and making toys.
I like these things because I can express myself in handwork. I have no examples to follow and I use my imagination. I like shopping for the things I need. There is a wonderful atmosphere in handwork shops. The things that I make are unique and beautiful.
My hobby helps me to find new friends all over the world as I get some ideas from blogs. I can learn different ways of handwork and become more creative. Besides, I can sell some of my works or give unusual presents to my friends and relatives.

You have to talk continuously.
A hobby is something people enjoy doing when they have free time. I believe it is something done entirely for pleasure. All the kinds of hobbies differ like tastes and we can imagine that people choose their hobbies only according to their characters and interests.
My peers usually take up blogging as a hobby, as they see a lot of successful examples on the Internet. Some years ago computer games were very popular, but I don`t think that this kind of hobby is as popular now as it used to be.
Making things, including drawing, knitting, designing, painting, making sculptures, handicrafts is also extremely popular. Some teenagers try to create something special and promote it on Instagram, for example. There are some cases, when teenagers became rich young businessman.
I prefer spending my leisure time reading and listening to the books and watching various movies and videos. My dream is to collect a valuable library, where on can find different types of books for all tastes. My hobby gives me the opportunity of learning the world and the people, broadening my horizons and awareness and opening various new worlds.

Glass is a natural mineral. Natural glass is grey and hard to look through. Man-made glass was first produced in Egypt 5000 years ago. It was used for decorations because it had a green or blue colour. The secret of clear glass was found in Europe only in the 13th century. At the same time, craftsmen learned to produce lenses to look at small objects or to be used by people who had problems with their eyes. This is how the first glasses appeared. Glass dishes and mirrors became popular later with the rise of technology. In Russia, the first glass factory was built in Moscow region in 1654.

Student: Well, I’ve been learning English for about 9 years.

Student: I guess that I’ve chosen English as an exam this year because I will need it in the future. English is the major international language. If you speak English, you will be able to communicate in many countries. I also will need it for my future work as a lawyer in an international company.
Electronic assistant: What other foreign language or languages would you like to speak?
Student: Frankly speaking, I’d like to speak Japanese fluently. In fact, I’ve already started learning it.
Electronic assistant: What would you recommend to students who want to improve their English?
Student: As for improving English, my first recommendation is to watch movies. I’ve seen many movies in English and feel that my English has improved. I read the script first and then watch the movie a few times till I understand it thoroughly. Reading is good too. You learn a lot of new words. If a student can find a Native English Speaking friend who he can talk to on Skype, he will be able to quickly improve his speaking skills.

Сегодня хочу показать Вам один лайфхак (lifehack), который Вы сможете использовать в процессе подготовки к Устной части (Задание 3). Думаю, он существенно облегчит вашу жизнь во время подготовки к экзамену. Но сначала давайте определим, что обозначает это модное слово “lifehack”.

“Lifehack is a strategy or technique adopted in order to manage one’s time and daily activities in a more effective way.”

Лайфхак (дословно «взлом жизни») – это набор методик и приёмов для упрощения процесса достижения поставленных целей при помощи разных полезных советов и хитрых трюков.

Прежде, чем мы приступим к нашему заданию, хочу напомнить Вам, что на экзамене Вы должны выбрать фото для описания буквально за считанные секунды. Возможности делать какие-либо пометки у Вас, к сожалению, не будет. Ко всему прочему, время ответа ограничено 2 минутами, поэтому темп речи должен быть довольно высокий.
Как правильно выбрать фотографию
— выбирайте фото, где объекты хорошо различимы и не вызывают двойного толкования
— выбирайте фото, на которых изображены люди (или группа людей), так как у вас будет возможность описать их эмоциональное состояние, внешний вид, род занятий, в отличие от статичных картинок с изображениями памятников архитектуры
— если Вы выбираете фото с изображением людей, не тратьте время на экзамене, придумывая им имена. Называйте их именами своих друзей, родственников, знакомых.
Например, In the foreground of the picture you can see my sister Ann (my brother Andrew, my aunt Mary, etc.).
— используйте свой жизненный опыт, описывая место действия. Это придаст вам уверенности на экзамене.
Например, I took this picture last summer when my family went to Sochi on holiday.
— выбрав фото, ни в коем случае не меняйте своего решения, так как Вам просто не хватит времени составить хороший ответ!
— не выбирайте фото, которое Вам просто нравится; руководствуйтесь объемом своих знаний, который необходимо использовать при описании фотографии.

Ну, а теперь я продемонстрирую Вам, как можно использовать мой шаблон для описания фотографий различной тематики, изменив несколько фраз.

In the foreground of the photo you can see my elder sister Stacy. She is running in the park at the moment. The morning is sunny and quite warm, so Stacy is wearing a nice T-shirt. In the background of the picture there are lots of green trees. The air is usually fresh in the morning. And I think it’s the best time for doing sports. (3)

In the background of the picture there is a thick forest. The day is not very sunny, so you can see lots of clouds in the sky. Nevertheless, I think such weather is good (suitable) for horse riding. (3)
