A gap year for adults is constructive time out-it can be anywhere, doing anything and everything You could be travelling round the world, building school in Chile, doing alternative work experience, lying on a beach in Fiji, or simply having a new look at your life. Traditionally a gap year was viewed as a student activity, taking an extended break before university tusually involved travel and, as a result was only done by people from wealthy families able to pay for the experience. In the UK, both Princes William and Harry took gap years before starting university or military training.
However, a gap year now offers something for everyone: for young people, or for older people reaching retirement; or people who don’t want a career but just want to take life one stage at a time, or for people in steady careers. Окончание школы – один из самых сложных и ответственных периодов в жизни каждого выпускника. Получить аттестат и сдать экзамены – еще не самое трудное. Вчерашнему школьнику необходимо определиться с какой профессией он хочет связать свою жизнь. И если кто-то твердо знает, чем он будет заниматься в будущем, другие не могут решить, что им выбрать, а третьи – сомневаются. Это нормально. Именно поэтому на Западе так популярно явление gap year.
Что такое gap year?
Дословно с английского языка термин переводится как «разрыв» и «год». Другими словами, это годичный перерыв между двумя этапами учебы. Чаще всего gap year берут после окончания школы. Это время выпускник тратит на то, чтобы понять, чем он хочет заниматься в жизни.
Западный опыт
Для подростка перерыв между школой и высшим учебным заведением – это возможность уделить внимание себе и своему саморазвитию. На Западе gap year чаще всего используют, чтобы путешествовать, участвовать в волонтерской работе, проходить стажировку и т.д.
Зарубежные вузы ценят такой опыт у абитуриентов. Часто сами университеты призывают подростков не спешить подавать документы и уделить время себе. Например, Гарвард советует повременить с поступлением, а в свободный год найти работу, отправиться в путешествие или заняться любым другим видом значимой деятельности.
Российская действительность
В России к идее школьника пропустить год между школой и вузом относятся немного по-другому. Чаще всего gap year воспринимают не как добровольный шаг, а как вынужденную меру: недостаточное количество баллов для поступления, проблемы со здоровьем и т.д.
Какие «за»
· Выпускной год для школьника может быть очень сложным и насыщенным. В такой стрессовой обстановке не всегда получается остановиться и тщательно обдумать план на дальнейшую жизнь. В подобной спешке часто принимают решение о выборе профессии и позже жалеют об этом. Перерыв позволяет в спокойной обстановке взвесить все плюсы и минусы, а также задать важные для себя вопросы: «Действительно ли я хочу заниматься именно этим, а не чем-то иным?», «Не надоест ли мне это через пару лет?».
· В перерыве между школой и вузом можно потратить год на себя. Отправиться в путешествие, пойти на кружки или секции, на которые не хватало времени из-за школы и подготовки к экзаменам. Кроме того, это время можно потратить на саморазвитие: уделить время книгам, посещению театров, музеев, выставок и других культурных мероприятий.
· В свободный год можно устроиться на работу – это хороший опыт, который обязательно пригодится в будущем. Работа позволит стать более самостоятельным и финансово независимым от родителей. Более того, можно устроиться на работу, которая близка выбранной специальности и посмотреть на эту кухню изнутри.
· Случается, что выпускник знал куда и на кого он хотел поступить, однако ему не хватило навыков (например, для творческой специальности) или баллов ЕГЭ. В этом случае можно пойти на подготовительные курсы или уделить больше времени подготовке к экзаменам. Главное – не лениться и добросовестно заниматься.
Какие «против»
· Бывает так, что после gap year люди решают не поступать в университет и не получать высшее образование. В этом случае важно помнить, что в будущем на учебный процесс необходимо будет потратить куда больше сил.
· Большим минусом является непостоянство бюджетных мест и проходных баллов. Количество мест обучения за счет государства и проходные баллы варьируются из года в год. Нет гарантии, что подросток поступит на бюджет, даже если он проходил на это же место в предыдущем году.
· Отношение общества к gap year в России довольно плохое. В нашей стране считается логичным и правильным поступить в вуз сразу после школы. Часто перерыв между школой и университетом воспринимается как удар для семьи.
· Армия (для парней). Если выпускник решил пропустить год, то, вероятнее всего, он проведет его в армии.
Личный опыт
Алиса Маштакова, 3-й курс, факультет государственной культурной политики МГИК:
«Для меня gap year был вынужденной мерой, так как я завалила ЕГЭ. Пришлось ждать один год и пересдавать экзамены заново. Могу сказать, что я бы не назвала год упущенным – за это время я многое переосмыслила, решила полностью поменять направление и сдала ЕГЭ по другим предметам. Но, если бы была возможность вернуться назад, я бы сделала все, чтобы поступить с первого раза».
Диана Дарсо, 1-й курс Московского Колледжа Импровизационной Музыки:
«У меня была возможность за год после школы определиться со своей профессией, что я и сделала. Не жалею о потраченном времени, так как после года раздумий поступила, но уже не ради корочки. Gap year позволяет узнать обо всех возможных вариантах работы, начиная от продавца, заканчивая работником в крупной компании (что мне и удалось сделать), также позволяет стать финансово независимым и свободным человеком. Кроме того, за этот год может появиться много новых друзей. Но надо понимать, что главная цель Gap year – найти профессию, ради которой вы поступаете в вуз. Нельзя терять ни минуты!».
Ева Кициева:
«Я взяла gap year потому, что не хватило немного баллов на бюджет на лечебный факультет. Это было мое решение, и я ни капельки не сомневалась в нем. И даже сейчас я о нем не жалею — до сих пор считаю, что поступила правильно. На самом деле, у gap year довольно много плюсов:
1)Появилась возможность найти работу и заработать первые собственные деньги.
2)Из-за отсутствия школы и дополнительных занятий появилось свободное время, которое я могла потратить, например, на прогулку с друзьями или путешествие.
3)Также есть ещё возможность немного подумать о выборе будущей профессии.
4)За год можно лучше подготовиться к экзамену и поступить в более престижный вуз.
Минус, пожалуй, только один – ОЖИДАНИЕ.

Nenets culture affected by global warming
For 1,000 years the indigenous Nenets people have migrated along the 450-mile- long Yamal peninsula in northern Russia. In summer they wander northwards, taking their reindeer with them. In winter they return southwards.
But this remote region of north-west Siberia is now being affected by global warming. Traditionally the Nenets travel across the frozen River Ob in November A ______ around Nadym. These days, though, this annual winter migration is delayed. Last year the Nenets, together with many thousands of reindeer, had to wait until late December В ______ .
“Our reindeer were hungry. There wasn’t enough food,” Jakov Japtik, a Nenets reindeer herder, said. “The snow is melting sooner, quicker and faster than before. In spring it’s difficult for the reindeer to pull the sledges. They get tired,” Japtik said.
Herders say that the peninsula’s weather is increasingly unpredictable — with unseasonal snowstorms С ______ , and milder longer autumns. In winter, temperatures used to go down to -50 °C. Now they are normally around -30 °C, according to Japtik. “Obviously we prefer -30 °C. But the changes aren’t good for the reindeer D ______ ,” he said, setting off on his sledge to round up his reindeer herd.
