Our planet Earth is only a tiny part of the universe, but it’s the only place where human beings can live. Today, our planet is in serious danger. Factories emit tons of harmful chemicals. These emissions have disastrous consequences for our planet. Fortunately, it’s not too late to solve these problems. We have time, money and even the technology to make our planet a better and cleaner place. We can plant trees and recycle litter. We can support green parties and put pressure on those in power. Together we can save the planet and all the people with it.
Everybody knows that our environment today is endangered, but very few people want to know why and how to cope with this problem. Various forms of pollution are happening due to some careless human actions.
Littering is one of them. It can lead to water and air pollution, land and soil pollution, and to many other unwanted effects. Litter has become a serious environmental issue nowadays. Of course, the majority of normal people know that littering is a negative thing. However, there are still lots of careless people who continue scattering their trash around. Litter can come in many various forms, starting from simple newspapers and proceeding to poisonous chemicals left from industry. People buy more and more unnecessary things every day, instead of reviving their old things. For example, instead of buying a new pair of shorts, we can simply shorten our old jeans. Or, instead of buying a new plastic bottle of water, we can simply refill the old one. People forget that plastic is highly harmful for the environment. In case they still buy many plastic bottles, they should at least recycle them.
Stepping back from personal litter, factories and their owners should be more environment-oriented as well. Every year millions of chemicals are thrown into water and air. Thus, we get dirty seas and oceans, where even fishes die out, and gas polluted air, which is the cause of many health problems.
The harm from littering can be prevented only by overcoming human ignorance. When people start reducing their litter, reusing and recycling their everyday items, our planet will become a better place to live.

| Not all the wastes are biodegradable, some of them need to be recycled. Nowadays we have plenty of factories where they recycle rubbish such as plastic, cloth, glass and so on. All we need to do is to separate glass, paper and plastic. By this we already do a great job and help our planet a lot. I know that there are some ecological organizations that arrange rubbish collection, they even make competitions in that. | Every day people around the world use millions of plastic bags and bottles and then throw them away which is very harmful for soil. Instead of that we can use the same bags when we go shopping and not buy new ones, or refill bottles with water. People buy things they don’t need instead of giving a new life to the old ones. For example instead of buying shorts you can just cut your jeans, or you can use your old T-shirt for mopping the floor. You can give your clothes to second hand shops or buy clothes there yourself. We have so many unnecessary things at home, which then go to the rubbish bin. Instead of that everything can be given for charity or to your friends who will probably need these things. | Каждый день люди по всему миру используют миллионы пакетов и пластиковых бутылок, а затем выбрасывают их, что вредит почве. Many of the thousands of people that visit beaches every year leave behind food wrappers, cigarette ends, drink cans and toys like buckets, spades and beach balls. These can then be blown or washed into the sea and become marine litter. Marine litter can also come from ships, fishermen, drains and factories. | Marine mammals such as seals, sea lions and dolphins are very curious animals who like to examine unusual objects in the sea. This is how they get mixed up in the litter, which causes them injury and stops them from finding food or swimming away from their enemies. Birds, fish and mammals can also confuse litter for food and eat it. Sea turtles, for example, often eat plastic bags because they look like jellyfish, one of their favourite foods. This then fills up the turtle’s digestive system, and makes it feel full, so it stops eating and starves. 2 100,000 marine mammals and nearly a million seabirds die either from getting caught in or eating litter each year! Many of these creatures are already threatened or endangered species. In addition, litter is dangerous for people as they can cut themselves on glass or metal.
