Zaryadye and Luzhniki shortlisted for international architecture award

Zaryadye Park has been listed in the Best Urban Regeneration Project and Luzhniki listed in the Best Refurbished Building category.

Two of Moscow’s megaprojects, Zaryadye Park and Luzhniki Stadium have been listed for MIPIM Awards 2018, a large international competition devoted to real estate and investment projects.

“Moscow projects are now recognised not only in Russia, but also internationally. By implementing them we show everybody that our reality is being changed and that we are open to new projects, such as Zaryadye, and can adapt the existing ones, such as Luzhniki, to the contemporary environment,” said Moscow’s Chief Architect Sergei Kuznetsov.

Zaryadye Park got listed as the Best Urban Regeneration Project. The concept designers were Sergei Kuznetsov and an international consortium led by the American bureau Diller Scofidio + Renfro.

“The original concept of Zaryadye Park has proven its relevance, evoking huge interest among people in Moscow and tourists: over 3 million people have visited the park in the past four months! We are happy that the project received recognition from the global professional community,” said Zaryadye director Pavel Trekhleb.

Luzhniki Stadium is among the finalists in the Best Refurbished Building category. The reconstruction of the sports complex was monitored by Moscow’s chief architect.

The general contractor for Zaryadye and Luzhniki was Mosinzhproekt.

Moscow’s new symbol

The decision to create Zaryadye Park was made in 2012 and the construction commenced in 2014. The major part of the work came to an end in September 2017 in time for Moscow’s 870thanniversary.

The main pavilion in Zaryadye is the Media Centre, which has the Moscow Now five information stands, a flagship tourist and information centre, an exhibition hall, a media studio, a gift shop plus cloakrooms, halls and baby care rooms. The amusements in the Media Centre are really interesting: Soaring Over Moscow withmultichannel sound, a moving platform, a 13-metre-tall screen and visual effects produces the feeling of a real flight, while Time Machine allows visitors to witness events in Moscow from the ancient times up to the present.

The second major pavilion in Zaryadye is the Nature Centre. It has a multi-tier greenhouse complex, a research and educational centre, a café, a gift shop plus a bar. Plans call for opening the Ice Cavethemed centre with labyrinths, arches as well as columns. From the Nature Centre hill there is a picturesque view of the Kremlin, St Basil’s Cathedral and the museums of the Patriarchal Metochion.

By the middle of 2018, a philharmonic hall will open in the park. In 2019 a unique organ will be installed there.

Another Zaryadye landmark is the River Overlook flying footbridgeover the Moskva River with a view of the Kremlin, the embankment together with the park itself. Zaryadye also has four nature zones specific to Russia: northern landscapes, forest, meadow and steppe.

Historical stadium in contemporary environment

Luzhniki’s Big Sports Arena will be the main venue of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. The stadium will host the opening match and the final one, as well as three group stage matches, one round of 16 match and the semifinal.

The reconstruction of Luzhniki began in 2014. The city has preserved the historical look of the Big Sports Arena by renovating the walls and the façade plus improving the arena with the use of modern technology. The façade was decorated with translucent panels with images of various kinds of sports and fitted out with spectacular architectural lighting which can be used in three different ways.

The priority task was to create a comfortable environment for sports fans. To this end, the new two-tier bleachers were moved closer to the football pitch, seats for low-mobility persons, two media screens and a French-made audio system were installed. The stadium also received a new roof which was turned into a media screen using LED lights. To avoid long queues, the number of exits was increased from 13 to 16, the corridors widened and 44 cascade stair cases built around the arena. At the stadium’s upper level, there is an observation point with a view of the city centre, Novodevichy Convent, the high-rises of the Moscow City business centre, and also Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The main improvement is the unique football pitch with its natural turf. Under it there are drainage, heating, watering devices, aeration and agro-technical monitoring systems. The turf for the pitch was selected with regard to the Moscow climate. Due to the heating system, which maintains a temperature of +15 degrees Celsius and artificial sunlight, the grass will not perish even in the coldest winter months.

Over the next few years or so, Luzhniki will become Russia’s main sports cluster. A cable way will connect the sports complex with the Vorobyovy Gory observation point before the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This year plans call for finishing the construction of a rhythmic gymnastics centre and in 2019, an aquatics centre together with the Kristall (Crystal) ice palace will open there.

Zaryadye park in moscow егэ ответы for its 870

Zaryadye Park, a city park in Moscow, opened its gates in 2017. It is situated on the left bank of the Moskva river, not far from the Red Square, and it gets its name from the name of the historical neighbourhood it is located in.
The park is a massive project that was celebrated when it was constructed and opened, but many problems arose during its construction. After the Russian government announced the demolition of the “Russia“ hotel in 2004, a contest was started to figure out what would be built at the spot.

At first, a new hotel complex was supposed to take the place of the old hotel. Among many plans, the project put forward by British architect Norman Foster was chosen in 2006. In the same year, the demolition of the hotel started, but the newly-chosen project didn’t see work starting. Moscow government was criticized due to the fact, and many ideas about why the project never started arose, which was all further amplified by the prolonged contest and the economic crisis that struck Russia in 2008.

After the long period of the project’s stagnation, many put forward their ideas on what should be built at the spot, but what became apparent was just how much the Kremlin had gained once the hotel was demolished, leaving empty grounds around it. Various groups became active in protecting the area, with the goal of preventing any high buildings from being built in the city center. Some individuals were adamant in the idea that the space should not see any construction carried out.

When the “Friends of Zaryadye“ group suggested that a large public park should be built, many fellow-architects, as well as urban planners agreed with the idea. In 2012, a new competition was held to pick a plan of the future park. The park was opened in 2017, after many projects had been rejected in a fierce competition.

The main feature of the park are the features hidden behind the landscape. The park is separated into four climate zones, which are: forest, steppe, tundra, and the water areas.

The nature and architecture of the park seem to form a uniform sturcture. Visitors can enjoy the view of the Moskva river, the media center, natural center, two amphitheaters, as well as a concert hall. Another advantage of the park is the picturesque view of the Kremlin which can be enjoyed from the floating bridge over the Moskva river.

The park is truly unbelievable, representing one of the main attractions of the city of Moscow. You will find interesting content and surely enjoy what the park has to offer. If you visit Moscow, you will surely visit the city center, so it would be a shame to miss this incredible park.

1.  A lasting relationship

2.  An inspirational city

3.  An unexpected discovery

4.  A brilliant celebration

A. Nobody knows when Moscow first appeared on the face of the earth. It is true that the first mention of Moscow dates back to 1147, but by that time it had probably been around for a while and was big enough to be mentioned in the Russian chronicles. Still, it is convenient to use that date to celebrate Moscow’s anniversaries which we are doing this year – Moscow has turned 870, a respectable age for one of the biggest capitals in the world!

B. Throughout its history, Moscow has been visited by many English speakers. The first British people arrived in Moscow in 1553 by accident. In the age of great geographical discoveries, when Spanish and Portuguese navigators were

sailing the world in search of the shortest way to Asia, British merchants tried to find their own way – through the Arctic. When they were stopped by ice, they turned their ships south and ended up in Russia.

C. Ivan the Terrible was happy to meet the first English merchants and granted them privileges to make trade between Russia and Britain easy. This was how The Muscovy Company appeared in Britain. The Czar even granted them a house near the Kremlin. This solid brick building has survived all the fires of Moscow and can be visited today. In 1994, during Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Moscow, it was turned into a museum – The Old English Court.

D. Mr Francis Pargiter was one of the merchants of The Muscovy Company and visited Moscow in the 1660s. He did not leave a written account of his trip, but his impressions of Moscow were recorded by his friend – Samuel Pepys, a

Member of Parliament who kept a diary. Mr Pargiter described Moscow as ‘a very great city’ but mostly with wooden houses and with very few people playing chess and ‘not a man that speaks Latin’!

E. In 1867, Moscow’s 720th anniversary, a trip to Moscow was undertaken by the author of “Alice in Wonderland”, Lewis Carrol. He described Moscow as a ‘wonderful city, a city of white houses and green roofs, of conical towers that rise one out of another like a telescope; of bulging glided domes, in which you can see as in looking glass, distorted pictures of the city.’ It is believed that the idea of “Through the Looking Glass” came to the writer during his trip to Russia.

F. In 1917, during the restless days of the Revolution, when not many people even remembered Moscow’s 770th anniversary, Moscow was visited by the American journalist John Reed. Among the fires and destroyed buildings, he

was happy to see St. Basil’s Cathedral untouched: ‘Late at night we went through the empty streets to the great Red Square. The church of Vasili Blazheiny loomed fantastic, its bright-coloured cupolas vague in darkness’.

G. In 1947, the American writer John Steinbeck witnessed Moscow’s 800th anniversary celebration. ‘The walls of the Kremlin and its towers were outlined in electric lights. Every public building was floodlighted. In every public square dance stands had been put up, and in some of the squares little booths, made to look like Russian fairy-tale houses, had been erected for sale of sweets, and ice-cream, and souvenirs’, he wrote in his Russian Journal.

Zaryadye Park

Zaryadye Park is a landscape urban park located near Red Square in Moscow which sits on a historically charged site. Its scale and complexity of engineering solutions are amazing. The area of the park’s facilities is almost there  78 thousand square metres. Also, you can find there an underground parking for 430 cars.

The main feature of the park is that all its objects are hidden under the landscape. In this green space Zaryadye will not be monotonous because the entire territory of the park is divided into four terrestrial zones: forest, steppe, tundra, and the floodplains. These zones are organised in terraces that descend from northeast to southwest. Another advantage of the new park is a picturesque view of the Kremlin which visitors can admire from the «floating bridge» over the Moskva River. After a walk in the park you can have fun on the attractions.

Zaryadye Park is a park located in the centre of Moscow close to Red Square. It was opened in September 2017. The name of the park comes from one of the oldest Moscow districts, Zaryadye, the history of which goes back to the beginning of the XII century.
An international team of architects, engineers and designers created this modern public place. Here we can see nature and technology, history and modernity so close together.
There are many things to see. Ice Cave with minus temperature has the atmosphere of the Far North. So close to the Kremlin the authors have created the building that takes the visitors on a journey through ice and snow. Almost 70 tons of water were frozen to achieve a beautiful 7,5 cm ice covering on the walls. The Museum of Nature sounds offers a new way to feel the world around you. Underground Museum tells about the history of the place. There was the very first street in Moscow here in ancient times – the Main street (Velikaya).
The educational centre The Conservation Embassy developed many courses, quests, laboratory classes and workshops for people of all ages interested in history, art, technology, plants, animals and many other spheres of life on the planet.
Zaryadye is a quiet place where we can have some rest from the rhythm of the city. The park is covered with trees, grass, plants and ponds, which illustrate different types of climate of the country, from the Far North to the grasslands of central Asia.

A lake is a large body of water within a body of land. As a lake is
separated from the ocean, it is not a sea. Some lakes are very big, and people
in the past sometimes called them seas. Lakes do not flow like rivers, but many
have rivers flowing into and out of them.

Most lakes on the surface of the Earth are fresh water and most are in
the Northern Hemisphere.

Many lakes are man-made reservoirs built to produce electricity, for
recreation, or to use the water for irrigation or industry, or in houses. Where
the water evaporates rapidly and the soil around the lake has a high salt
level, as in very dry places, the water of the lake has a high concentration of
salt and the lake is called a salt lake. Examples of salt lakes are the Great
Salt Lake, the Caspian Sea, the Aral Sea, and the Dead Sea.
