3. What I prefer to do when I want to enjoy myself is go to a cafe with my friend because it’s a way to cheer me up and to chat about everything I want to. “Coffee et Chocolate” is a good chain coffee house in Saratov city. Most of all I like to go to one that is located in Kirova street.
   Coffee et Chocolate provides the customers with a rich tea and coffee list, desserts, and ice-creams. You may pop into this cafe to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. The quality of food is out of the world beginning from coffee up to second courses.
   The coffee house tries to create a tranquil atmosphere in order to attract customers. The waitresses are smiley and are ready to serve quickly. There is always French music or French songs which you may enjoy listening to.
   The last time I ate out there on the 12-th of October with my friend before going to the Drama theatre. It was raining all day long, the rain beat against the windows. We were sitting in cosy armchairs, drinking coffee, eating sweet cakes “Tiramisu”, and watching the passers-by through the window. We were satisfied with the service as usual I should say, and I was surprised by the waitress who did not take notes but remembered our order, by the way we ordered a lot. After having a lunch there we went to the theatre.
   I would recommend this cafe to anyone who likes cosy atmosphere, where you can plunge and just relax, you may chat with friends there and listen to the French music if you wish.

   My Leisure
   I find it very
   difficult to speak about my free time. And not only because now
   I have practically no leisure. The thing is that I was brought
   up in a family where there was a motto: «It’s an early bird that
   catches the worm».
   And speaking about spare time now, it seems like recollecting or
   even making up pleasurable but still fantastic stories. It’s
   because these «hot» days I’ve got absolutely no free time. But I
   can dream of it and come back to it in my memory.
   Most of all I like reading. I really love it. Books of different
   genres give me pleasure, provided they are good. I adore reading
   books on history. They are very informative and make me proud of
   my motherland. Books about the lives of famous people suggest
   the idea that anyone can make his / her life honorable and
   worthy. Detective stories help to relax, they are so catching.
   And now, when I’m deeply interested in English, I try reading
   books in English. Recently, I’ve read a book of Oscar Wilde
   called «The Happy Prince and some other tales». I dream of
   reading his «Portrait of Dorian Gray». I was surprised to find
   out that his real fairy tales differ so much from their Russian
   versions.
   In the evening I adore watching TV. It makes my life scheduled.
   I sometimes laugh at soap operas, but I should confess I watched
   «Santa Barbara» and «The Bold and the Beautiful».
   On winter weekends, I enjoy going to the forest with my family.
   We go there to ski. And though I am not a pro in skiing, it is
   extremely pleasant, because nature is fascinating, air is
   invigorating and I have a rest from the fuss of the city.
   Sometimes we go to the theatre. I am fond of Opera and Ballet
   Theatre, it’s so beautiful inside, and the staff is wonderful. I
   like both opera and ballet, but operetta is not my cup of tea.
   Wonderful music carries me away, and every visit to the theatre
   is a kind of holiday for me. But I like pop music too. I often
   meet with my friends. Either I call on them, or they drop in. So
   you can see, my entertainments in my leisure time are not very
   sophisticated. But now I miss my free time, and hope to have
   some deserved rest soon.

   свободном времени очень трудно. И не только потому, что у меня
   его практически нет. Дело в том, что я родилась в семье, где

   истории. Все это по той причине, что в эти «жаркие» деньки у
   меня нет свободного времени, но я могу мечтать о нем и
   наслаждаться воспоминаниями.
   Больше всего я люблю читать. Я особенно люблю читать вечерами.
   Книги разных жанров приносят мне удовольствие при условии, что
   они хорошие. Я обожаю читать исторические книги. Они очень
   информативны и побуждают меня гордиться нашей Родиной. Книги о
   жизни знаменитых людей пробуждают мысль, что каждый способен
   сделать свою жизнь благородной и достойной. Детективные истории
   помогают расслабиться, они такие захватывающие. И сейчас, когда
   я особенно интересуюсь английским, я пытаюсь читать книги на
   языке оригинала. Недавно я прочитала книгу Оскара Уайльда
   «Счастливый принц другие сказки». Я мечтаю прочесть книгу
   «Портрет Дориана Грея». Я была удивлена, когда обнаружила, что
   его настоящие истории отличаются от русских версий.
   По вечерам я обожаю смотреть телевизор. Это помогает мне
   придерживаться расписания. Я иногда смеюсь над мыльными операми,
   но должна признаться, я смотрела «Санту Барбару» и «Дерзкие и
   красивые».
   Зимой по выходным я получаю удовольствие от походов в лес с моей
   семьей. Мы ходим туда кататься на лыжах. Несмотря на то что я не
   профессионал, мне приятно кататься на лыжах, наслаждаясь
   великолепными пейзажами/вдыхать бодрящий воздух и отдыхать от
   беспокойного города. Иногда мы ходим в театр. Мне очень нравится

7. Leisure. Entertainment
   Nowadays everybody knows that people are very busy and don’t have much time to spare. Sometimes it’s only the weekend and I think that every day-off needs some special planning. The English say: “Who knows how to work, knows how to rest”. I think it’s true. In my view rest is as important as work. So I try to treasure every hour and think of the ways of having a good time in the best way possible for me.
   I prefer spending my free time with the people whose company I always enjoy. I also like to spend my spare time alone, when I’m tired and haven’t got any desire to talk to anybody, very often I want to get away from noisy streets and go to the countryside and change the scenery. On the other hand I may go to different entertainment centers such as disco clubs, art centers including cinema, theatre, concerts halls, etc.
   There are people who want to broaden and enrich their knowledge during their free time. I’m among them; I go to the library or reading-hall where I can find a lot of books written by my favourite writers and poets. I must add that I never have enough time to enjoy reading and more often read a book or a magazine late in the evening. Or I can go to the museums and picture galleries where I can see the works of well-known painters and sculptors of all times. I don’t forget the computer – my greatest helper in searching for knowledge.
   If you want to be strong and healthy, go in for sports. There are many sports clubs, swimming-pools, gymnasiums and sport grounds for everybody who loves sports. Sport will make you not only healthier and stronger, but kinder, more sociable, cheerful and even wiser. Sport will give you its strength and energy and you’ll become a greater admirer of life with all its problems and wonders.
   Moreover, there are a lot of people, who prefer less energetic activities, such as chess, cards, crosswords.
   And don’t forget about hobbies. You should have at least one, it’ll help you to relax, dream and enjoy life. There are so many hobbies to choose: painting, computer programming, photography, fishing, gardening, cooking, walking, learning languages, collecting something and what not. It’s a pleasure to see lots of things made with your own hands, to look through a large collection of old and rare coins, books or stamps, to present your friends with the pictures and drawings created by yourself, to amuse everyone with your green winter garden at home. So, look around more carefully and you’ll find your own and the only one (or even more). Hobbies give people moments of pride and excitement but take a lot of time, energy and even money.
   Tastes differ and if you have chosen a hobby according to your character and taste you are lucky. (So my hobby is…)
   Travelling is also a good way to spend my spare time. Visiting new places, seeing sights and meeting new people is a very exciting and useful relaxation. I can go hiking. In summer I like to be outdoors from morning till night, sunbathing, walking barefoot on the grass. My family or my friends are the very people to go with to the riverbank, to the forest or to the seashore. It’s really wonderful to put up a tent, make a fire and spend time in a picturesque place.
   People are dreamers, our dreams are different but each person chooses his own way of spending free time, either passive or active. In any case leisure should be refreshment and a source of inspiration.

9. I am fond of good books and good music, and when I have some time to spare, I like to go to the theatre or a concert. There are more than a dozen very good orchestras in Britain and some of them are world famous. Orchestras in Britain have no concert halls of their own, but play in halls rented from local authorities or private companies. There are 2 big concert halls in London. The Old Royal Albert Hall and the New Royal Festival Hall, which is one of the most modern concert halls in the world.
   Theatrical performances are given by theatre companies. There are about 200 professional theatres in Britain. Like orchestras, the theatre companies usually play in rented theatres, but there are several theatres which have their own homes. The center of the actor life is London. London is also the main center of opera and ballet. The British are not fond of cinema. Rather then take trouble of going out to see a film, they would stay at home and watch television. In Britain the choice of films is limited to young people. Films are placed in one of three categories. “U” means suitable for everybody, “A” stands for more suitable for adults and films of “X” category are suitable only for adults. A person under 16 years of age may see an “A” film only in company of an adult. Only person over 16 years of age may see “X” films. Those, who prefer to stay at home, may spend their free time, watching TV, listening to the radio. They have many TV and radio programmes to choose from.
   As for me, I am a great cinema-goer. I like the cinema tremendously. I see all the best films that are on. I prefer feature films, though I enjoy documentaries almost as much to say nothing of animated cartoons films, news-reels or popular science films. I usually go to the cinema for morning or day shows. If I want to go to an evening show I book tickets beforehand. I like to come to the cinema a couple of minutes before the movie starts. If I have long time to wait I can always look at the portraits of film stars hanging on the walls in the foyer, or listen to a little concert that is usually given for the spectators. It is a good idea that those who are late are not allowed to enter the hall until the news-reel is over. I hate being disturbed when a film is on. If I like a movie very much I go to see it again, and besides, I see many of the movies televised. I often read the paper “Film Week” to know which films have been released and which ones are being shot. I know all the famous script writers, producers and cameramen.

Также интересно собирать ягоды и грибы. Если вы не хотите уезжать далеко от дома, вы можете найти множество развлечений прямо у себя во дворе. Многие люди сажают цветы и овощи в садах и на огородах, разбитых на участке вокруг дома, или жарят шашлыки с друзьями и родственниками.

    The best season of the year

    In my opinion, summer is the best season of the year. It’s time when we leave our houses and do activities in the open year. There is a great variety of them.

    Sports in summer

    Let’s take sport, for example. Summer affords excellent opportunities for swimming, boating, yachting and cycling. I really enjoy the last one. I think it’s remarkable to go along country roads in order to find new places and see new sights. Besides, you can stop anywhere you like as there are no parking problems. When you come back from a day’s ride you feel really good.

    Outdoor games

    Among outdoor games football takes the first place in public interest. I believe it’s played in all the countries of the world. Of course, there are sports grounds for going in for other kinds of sports such as tennis, basketball, volleyball and cricket. There are lots of games that can be played just in the yard. Consider badminton, for example, which is very popular with people of all ages.

    Other activities

    Apart from this, you can enjoy summer in many other ways. I think everyone went camping at least once in his life. You live in a tent in the forest and have a great chance to observe all the beauty of our nature walking barefoot through thick green grass or lying down on it and watching clouds floating in the sky. Another interesting thing is picking berries and mushrooms. If you don’t want to go anywhere far you can always find activities to get busy with just near your house. Lots of people plant flowers and vegetables in their gardens, tiding the place around the house or have barbecues with friends and relatives.

    In conclusion, I want to say that it’s impossible to enumerate all summer activities but every person is surely able to choose what he likes best.

    To tell the truth, I am good at organizing different parties because I am always full of great ideas. I love being the centre of attention at parties. I think, I am a real party person.
    I want to tell you about the party which was organized on the 28th of October. We celebrated Halloween at school. All my classmates were present. We all wore masks and were dressed in different costumes. Firstly, we took part in a sack race. After that we jumped with tied legs and drew ghosts with closed eyes. Everybody laughed. Then we drank Cola, Pepsi and ate cakes, sweets, fruit and ice-cream. Also, we played games, sang songs and danced. I sang rap and was in a good mood.

My Hobby – Playing Guitar

Whenever people ask me regarding my hobby, I always pause and think for a moment. Even though I like playing all the instruments, my hobby is playing guitar.

When I was 6 years old I suddenly developed a liking for music. I started creating tunes and melodies by beating my desks which sounded like I was playing bongos. I was pretty good at it too.

Whenever guests used to come at our place they would request me to play some melody on my dining table as they thought I was very good at it. Of course, in childhood I would get annoyed because playing music was something I wanted to keep to myself.

As I grew up, my hobby developed into playing guitars after my aunt came from Florida and got me a guitar. Now all my time was devoted to learning guitar strings and playing screeching music that would make your ears bleed. But soon, after a lot of practice and perseverance I was able to get hands on learning of guitar strings.

Playing guitar has taught me many things, but the most important thing it has taught me is that the more you play it, the better you become at it. I have hurt my finger with guitar chords many times. Practicing made me learn different notes and now I can play chords such as AM, C, D, G, AM7, CMAJ7 and many more.

Playing guitar gives me the refuge from thinking too much about outside world. It helps me stay calm in the world of chaos. The best thing about it is that I can recreate any tune I want to, which makes me feel very creative and happy that my hobby has developed into a worthwhile talent. i hope that soon I am able to learn other musical instruments as well.

My Hobby – Cooking

My hobbies have always changed over the time. At one point in my life, I used to paint in my free time. As I grew up, I started cooking as a hobby. I still remember the recipes that I used to download from the internet and work on them with patience.

However, I always ended up with burnt pies or undercooked pizza doughs. It was hilarious for my family to see me trying and failing miserably. However, one day I decided to follow my mother’s cooking recipe. I was able to create the dish perfectly then. The happiness I got was priceless so I decided that from that day onwards, I will cook whenever I have free time in my schedule.

From there on, I cook different recipes every day. From lasagna to baked broccoli— I have successfully tried all the recipes. I have realized over the time that cooking is a stress buster and an energy booster. It feels so good after a long hard day at kitchen to finally serve food to your family or guests. Of course, I don’t do it professionally, it is merely a hobby for me. But the joy I receive when I create food from new recipes or invent my own kind of cuisine by mixing up 2 or 3 recipes is beyond price.

One of the best things I like about cooking is that I can experiment on food. I don’t enjoy cooking as a daily chore, but it’s something that I do as a hobby. I love the sound of patties in hot oil, sizzling as they are being fried. I enjoy cutting the colorfully exotic vegetables.

The smell of spices and different flavor oozing from my kitchen excite me and make me feel like I am doing something worthwhile. I love cooking as a hobby and it makes me happy that I have learnt it so early in my age.

My Hobby – Reading Books

I’m passionate about reading. Although I have several hobbies, such as watching movies and hiking, reading books is what resonates well with me. There are many reasons why I love reading. The first reason is it gives me a level of fulfillment. That is, books rejuvenate me. After reading a book, I feel like a whole new being and my outlook in life changes.

The second reason is books make my mind sharp. It is a known fact that books improve our brain muscles. They make us think better and improve our decision making abilities. I find it funny that whenever I utter a clever quote from a book, everyone around me would be dumbfounded.

Furthermore, books are very wide and detailed. It seems like there is a book for anything you can think of. If you want religious books, there is the Bible, the Quran and other spiritual books. There are financial books, inspirational books, cooking books, business-related books, biographies, fictional and non-fictional- the list is endless. Reading is actually among the few hobbies that you learn while doing it.

Due to my widely acquired knowledge from books, I find it easy to jumpstart a conversation with a stranger. I realized that people are more responsive when you engage them in topics they are familiar with. This is where I have an upper hand over other people, because I’m quite knowledgeable in many sphere of life thanks to books.

While most people find reading an upheaval task, reading to me is like a calling. It just comes naturally to me. I have made it my culture to read at least a chapter before I hit the sack. Sometimes I read late into the night, especially during the weekends and I only stop when my head becomes too drowsy to continue. My reading culture is further heightened by my introversion.

Most of my ‘me-time’ is actually spent on reading. This is how I get my energy back. The outside can be too overwhelming for some of us. Whenever I feel like my energy has been milked dry by the outside world, I just take a few hours of reading to rekindle my spirits again.

What I prefer to do when I want to enjoy myself is go to a cafe with my friend because it’s a way to cheer me up and to chat about everything I want to. «Coffee et Chocolate» is a good chain coffee house in Saratov city. Most of all I like to go to one that is located in Kirova street. 

Coffee et Chocolate provides the customers with a rich tea and coffee list, desserts, and ice-creams. You may pop into this cafe to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. The quality of food is out of the world beginning from coffee up to second courses.

The coffee house tries to create a tranquil atmosphere in order to attract customers. The waitresses are smiley and are ready to serve quickly. There is always French music or French songs which you may enjoy listening to.

The last time I ate out there on the 12-th of October with my friend before going to the Drama theatre. It was raining all day long, the rain beat against the windows. We were sitting in cosy armchairs, drinking coffee, eating sweet cakes «Tiramisu», and watching the passers-by through the window. We were satisfied with the service as usual I should say, and I was surprised by the waitress who did not take notes but remembered our order, by the way we ordered a lot. After having a lunch there we went to the theatre.

I would recommend this cafe to anyone who likes cosy atmosphere, where you can plunge and just relax, you may chat with friends there and listen to the French music if you wish.

I am fond of good books and good music, and when I have some time to spare, I like to go to the theatre or a concert. There are about 200 professional theatres in Britain. Like orchestras, the theatre companies usually play in rented theatres, but there are several theatres which have their own homes. The center of theatrical life is London. London is also the main center of opera and ballet. I am not particularly fond of the cinema. Rather then take trouble of going out to see a film, I would stay at home and watch television. I seemed to share this attitude with the most other people in Britain. In Britain the choice of films is limited to young people. Films are placed in one of three categories in Britain. «U» — suitable for everybody, «A» — more suitable for adults, «X» — suitable only for adults. A person under 16 years of age may see an «A» films only in company of an adult. Only person over 16 years of age may see «X» films. Those, who prefer to stay at home may spend their free time, watching TV, listening to the radio. They have many TV and radio programs to choose from.

As for me, I am a great cinema-goer. I like the cinema tremendously. I see all the best films that are on. I prefer features films, though I enjoy documentaries almost as much to say nothing of animated cartoons films, news-reels or popular science films. I usually go to the cinema for the morning or day shows. If I want to go to an evening show I book tickets beforehand. I like to come to the cinema a couple of minutes before the movie starts. If there is a long time to wait I can always look at the portraits of film stars hanging on the walls of the foyer, or listen to a little concert that is usually given for the spectators. It is a good idea, that those who are late are not allowed to enter the hall until the news-reel is over. I hate being disturbed when a film is on. If I like a movie very much I go to see it a second time and besides I see many of the movies televised. I often read the paper «Film Week» to know which films have been released and which ones are being shot. I know all the famous script writers, producers and cameramen.

Everyone needs some leisure time. It is simply impossible to work non-stop, no matter how important your goals are. Without a period of relaxation, you get slower and slower, until you finally feel sick and get an absent leave. Moreover, when you are stressed and unhappy, the quality of your work falls dramatically. It is hard to notice a good idea, let alone implement it into your work process, when you are in bad mood. That is why it is so important to have some leisure time, when you can do everything you like on your own or with your friends. And you should not regret every minute of it, because you are not doing the stuff you are paid for, but enjoy it to the fullest, for it allows to work faster and more productively.

My idea of fun

Everyone is different, that is why we all enjoy doing different things in our leisure time. One likes watching TV, another plays football with their friends, it is all good, as long as it brings a person satisfaction. As for me, my passion is cinema and good literature. I am an avid reader. When I was younger, I would read every book I could find. Then there was a period in my life when I read only science fiction. Now I try to read only good books, which either have a good idea or are somewhat helpful for me. As for cinema, I like watching new movies with my friends. It is awesome to be able to discuss all the subtle details with them.

Things I want to try doing in my leisure time

I do not usually have a lot of free time, but sometimes I am too bored to do something really important. That is when I need something interesting to distract myself from work and let my brains rest. I have recently made a list of things a can try in my leisure time to entertain myself.

• Taking part in some online courses;
• Learning how to draw and expressing myself through pictures;
• Riding my bicycle in the park near my home;
• Jogging in the evening;
• Learning Spanish or French;
• Writing on my blog;
• Walking on foot and taking nice photos of ordinary things;
• Trying relaxation through meditation.

Past and Present of V.N. Karazin National University of Kharkov

Karazin University was founded in 1804, few years ago, students celebrated its bicentennial. Nowadays this university has about two dozen faculties, at the time it was founded, there were only a few, but even then the preparation was carried out at a high level. Back then Karazin invited many professors from other countries to teach his students. The University has every reason to be proud of its graduates, including writers, economists, biologists, physicists, mathematicians, — all they have achieved considerable success in their field. Karazin University gave at least three Nobel laureates — biologist Mechnikov, the economist S. Kuznetsov and the world-famous physicist Lev Landau.
