Sooner or later all of us face the problem of choosing a career when we are to decide what we are going to be in future. Choosing a career is not a simple matter — in fact, it can be one of the most important in our life. You don’t need to hurry making a decision. You should examine thoroughly your abilities and character, take a realistic view of your strengths and weaknesses, pay attention to your parents’ and friends’ advice and take into account your own preferences. • Pay. Is the size of your salary important? Generally speaking, it is important. Business trips may last a week, a month and even more. You may be sent to London for a few days, then you’ll spend only a few hours in Paris, and right after that, without any rest, you’ll have to go to Berlin. Sometimes it turns out that you don’t have even an hour for yourself just to relax and see the town you’ve come to. Such trips may be very exhausting and stressful. However, if you are young, ambitious and full of energy, you will be able not only to do your job successfully but also see the world.
• Aspiration for creative work. If you are a creative person, it’s a must for you to find such job. It can be a job of an artist, a tailor, a designer or a stylist.
• Jobs connected with risk. Such jobs are usually well-paid, but very dangerous. A police officer, a fireman, a bodyguard, a lifeguard — these are the names of jobs which imply risk. Those, who want a rewarding but demanding job and who are ready to devote all their lives to it, may choose this kind of work.
Analyzing all these points will help you not to make a wrong choice.
In case you are an aspiring, responsible, creative, optimistic, reliable person, who is ready to learn and be laborious, who is not afraid of any difficulties of the future and ready to solve any problem with a smile, the world of jobs and careers will be open to you.
Choosing a career should not only be a matter of future prestige and wealth. Work should bring real satisfaction; otherwise your whole life will become dull and monotonous.

Choosing a career is like any other activity; it is best to work to a plan. Too many people start looking for a specific job before thinking out their occupational aims. It is a good idea to begin by attempting to define in clear terms what your requirements are from a career. This involves taking a realistic view of your strengths and weaknesses. You may think for example, that you would like a job which involves organizing people, but liking such a job is not a sufficient justification if experience you already may have suggests that this is not your strong point. On the other hand, you should remember that training will equip you to do new things. A further point to consider is how far you will be willing to do for a time things which you do not like knowing that they are necessary to achieve your longer term objectives. Having thought carefully about the sort of person you are, try to work out a realistic set of occupational requirements. In particular, you can answer to important questions. First: what sort of life do you want to lead? For example, do you want to live in the country or in the town? Is leisure time of great importance to you? Is the size of your salary important? Do you want to put down roots or travel widely? Second: what sort of work do you want to do? For example, do you like working alone or with others? Does teaching people appeal to you? Do you want to be an organizer of other people’s activities? Do you want to develop new ideas and initiate changes.
As for me, I have made up my mind to be an engineer. As my parents are an engineers they have made a great influence on my choice and I can say that this profession runs the family. My choice of this occupation didn’t come as a sudden flash. I think that nowadays this profession is of great need and importance to our country. It is my aim to be a qualified specialist and to serve the interests of my country. To be a well prepared engineer I should have some important qualities: great capability persistence, knowledge of science and, of course, knowledge of foreign languages. In spite of these arguments we mustn’t forget about everybody’s vacation. I think that my facilities combined with the knowledge would be quiet enough to succeed in my work.

difference is between a career and a job. Basically a job is

On the one hand, modern society, with its hundreds of
professions and jobs, presents a vast range of future job
opportunities. Industry and business, farming, science and
education, medicine, service, arts and journalism are just a few
professional fields a young person can specialize in. On the
other hand, modern society with its crises, unemployment and
inflation, makes a poor choice of profession a really bad
mistake. You can choose a profession you really like, and face
problems when looking for a job. Or you can find a job you like,
but it will be underpaid. Besides, a young person’s parents
usually have their own ideas of what career path to choose. Some
parents are more democratic and let the child determine his
future by himself. Some are oppressive and overprotective and
try to force the child to make this or that career choice. In
this case, they often try to compensate for their own dreams
which have failed and the chances they have missed. Sometimes
they see their child is gifted in some field and try to persuade
him to choose this profession irrespective of the fact if he

the problems mentioned above, the choice has to be made. To make
it easier for the young people, there is some professional
advice. It’s best for the young man to start this process as
early as possible, ideally in the tenth form. You should
determine if you would like to continue in higher education, or
to learn a trade and look for a job. It’s up to the person to
decide, but you should remember that to get more chances, you
should strive for higher education which enables you to be
qualified for skilled labour. You should determine what you
might like to study or major in at college. You might like to

Choosing a career is not an easy matter. I am leaving school in two years and I haven’t yet decided which profession to choose.
There are a lot of interesting things in the world, so it is difficult to make the right choice.
In childhood I wanted to be a pilot, then I wanted to become a fireman. But now I have to think about my future career seriously. Some people are good at Maths, Physics and Biology, others enjoy History, Literature and Geography.
In my opinion I am good at foreign languages. My favorite language is English. I like it very much and I want to be either a teacher of English or an interpreter. I like watching films in English, reading books in the original and listening to music in English.
I think that young people should ask themselves: What am I interested in? What do I want to become? When they find the answer, they will have the goal to achieve. And then they should do everything to achieve this goal. If you are good at Maths and you want your profession to be connected with this subject, you should start studying it very seriously. The same is with other subjects.
My father wants me to follow in his footsteps and become a businessman. But I am not interested in business or economics. I have always been bad at these subjects and I want my profession to be connected with English.
My mother says that I should choose my future occupation myself. But I am still not sure what to choose. Of course there are a lot of special books about different professions. In addition, a lot of universities and institutes have open house days, so I can go there and choose a good place for my future studies.
However, it is very difficult to enter a university. If you do not have money and if you are not a genius, you will never enter a good university or an institute. I have some friends who were in this situation and they had to choose a career not to their interests and liking.
But some young people still do not know which career to choose even after they finish school, so they have to waste time deciding, or go to find a job. For men it is harder because they may be taken to the Army, that’s why a lot of them enter any institute or university just not to become soldiers.
Sometimes young people choose a career they are interested in, they enter a university and after some time they understand that this occupation is not for them, they get poor marks and have to leave the university.

The global trends of the dynamically developing world influence on the formation of the future professions. Formerly, the students might choose their future professions in the fifth or sixth classes, because the primary trends were obvious enough, but nowadays the ever-changing global market dictates its terms. My generation should choose the profession of the future, which are not existed right now. Thus, the issue of choosing a career is getting harder.
What tendencies should our generation draw attention to? There are three professional areas per minimum, which will need in the human resources. If you choose one of it, you will be able to adapt to the global changes and requirements of the market and you will have permanent field for your individual and professional advancement.
The information technology is the most popular and high-demand industry even now, and it will be on-fire specialty in the next ten and twenty years. The key factor is the tendency of automation and optimization of the labor. Accordingly, the most required profession of the near future will be connected with the soft engineering. But there are also several branches such as the industry of virtual entertainment, finances and economics, design or optimization for reduction of the manual labor.
The healthcare industry is steadily widened and need in new type specialists, first of all in the genetics. The genetic experiments for fighting against the health problems and different pathologies cannot be conducted without top experts.
For people, who care about the nature, fauna and flora, the professions in the ecology will be more preferable. Specialties in environmental protection will be also in-demand in several years, because the state of our planet is more than unsatisfied and need in emergency aid. Having chosen a career in ecology you will have a chance to save the Earth.

The earlier you decide on what profession is interesting and rewarding for you, the more you can achieve during your lifetime.
Choosing a career is a challenging task indeed. It is all about finding the perfect match between your personality, interests, and skills. On the one hand, modern society, with its hundreds of professions and jobs, presents a vast range of future job opportunities. Industry and business, farming, science and education, medicine, service, arts and journalism are just a few professional fields a young person can specialize in. On the other hand, modern society with its crises, unemployment and inflation, makes a poor choice of profession a really bad mistake. You can choose a profession you really like, and face problems when looking for a job. Or you can find a job you like, but it will be underpaid. Besides, a young person’s parents usually have their own ideas of what career path to choose. Some parents are more democratic and let the child determine his future by himself. Some are oppressive and overprotective and try to force the child to make this or that career choice. In this case, they often try to compensate for their own dreams which have failed and the chances they have missed. Sometimes they see their child is gifted in some field and try to persuade him to choose this profession irrespective of the fact if he likes it or not.

One of the most difficult decisions in our life is choosing what to do for a living when we grow up. Finishing school means starting independent lives and choosing one of the roads: a technical school or a university. Let me introduce myself. My name is Masha. I have left school this year. It is my dream to become a student of the English department. I want to study English, German and maybe French.
Knowledge of a foreign lanquage opens a new world for us. If you know a foreign language, you can speak with foreigners and it is a way to better understanding. If you know a foreign language you can read books in the original, and it is a way to better understanding of other people’s nature and culture.
In our country children study different foreign languages. At school I took up English. I read stories by English, American and Australian writers. It has become my habit to read English books in adapted form every day. I learn poems and do a lot of grammar exercises. Now I know I must work hard to master English. Studying the English language under the guidance of the University teachers I want to learn much about the history of words, their origin and usage in ancient times. For example; the word «window» is made of two very old Anglo-Saxon words, such as «wind’ and «eye». The word «window» means «the wind’s eye». It tells us of the time when a window was only a hole in the wall, and the wind used to come through it.
When I finish my studies, I’ll begin teaching in a secondary school. I think I’ll enjoy the work greatly. Teaching is a noble profession. In modern times all kinds of specialists need foreign languages in their work — teachers, doctors, engineers and people in many other professions. If a specialist doesn’t know a foreign language he can’t use all the foreign books which he needs in his work. I want to teach my pupils to read English books in the original, so they won’t depend on translations.
I hope I’ve chosen the right profession.

For example, I want to become a doctor. It means that at the age of ten or eleven I have to read books about doctors. This may be done by going to the library and by reading widely; also by talking to adults who know much about this profession. I also need to think about how well I can do what I would like to do.

Perhaps, the best way to prepare for any job is to get a good education — to do well at school, and to learn all I can outside of school.

Jobs change and new ones are constantly appearing. In some years, there will be many more new jobs nobody knows anything about today. By reading and talking to people we’ll learn what great opportunities there will be for us. If a school leaver wants to get a higher education, the best way to it is through practical work. You will have time to think over your decision and you will have a good knowledge of life.

One of the most difficult problems a young person faces is deciding what to do about a career. There are individuals, of course, who from the time they are six years old «know» that they want to be doctors or pilots or fire fighters, but the majority of us do not get around to making a decision about an occupation or career until somebody or something forces us to face the problem.

Choosing an occupation takes time, and there are a lot of things you have to think about as you try to decide what you would like to do. You may find that you will have to take special courses to qualify for a particular kind of work, or may find out that you will need to get some actual work experience to gain enough knowledge to qualify for a particular job.

Fortunately, there are a lot of people you can turn to for advice and help in making your decision. At most schools, there are teachers who are professionally qualified to counsel you and to give detailed information about job qualifications. And you can talk over your ideas with family members and friends who are always ready to listen and to offer suggestions.

But even if you get other people involved in helping you make a decision, self evaluation is an important part of the decision-making process.

It isn’t easy to find a good job. You could be a very pleasant personality but still the employers won’t give you the position of your dream if you don’t have proper qualifications for that kind of job. So it’s essential to analyze what education and what skills are required for your job. To be good at computers and to have a good command of English is absolutely necessary for modern jobs.

In our modern fast paced world there are plenty of new interesting and socially important professions. The future profession must not be boring for you. It should suit your interests and your features of character. You might choose working indoors or outdoors, dealing with people or just with papers. In other words you should enjoy the work you do. It should also satisfy your career plans and professional ambitions. It should provide us with a chance of professional growth and personal development.

I am sure that all of us want to earn as much money as possible. However many young people are wise enough to follow a definite career and earn quite a low salary at the beginning. They realize that they have good prospects in a company that trains its staff and soon they can climb the career ladder. At the same time there are young people who would rather prefer taking any kind of work because they just need an income. Even so we must admit that any temporary jobs help us gain much useful experience and we can learn a lot.

When you leave school you understand that the time to choose your future profession, your future life has become. It’s not an easy to make the right choice of a job. I have known for long time that leaving school is the beginning of my independent life, the beginning of a far more serious examination of my abilities and character.

What do I want to be when I leave school? It’s very important question for me. A few years ago it was difficult for me to give a definite answer. As the years passed I changed my mind a lot of times about what science or field of industry to specialize in. It’s difficult to make up my mind and choose one of the hundreds jobs to which I might be better suited. A coupe of years ago I wanted to become a doctor, you know I wanted to help people who had problems with health. Then I wanted to become a policeman, then a spaceman, I even wanted to become a professional football player.

But all of them now are in the past; they were like children’s dreams and nothing more. Now I have already decided what to do. I’d like to be an aviator. I know that it’s very difficult. I should know perfectly everything about the planes, airports, weather and other things. You know that the weather is very important thing for the flights too. I must be well educated and well informed. So that’s why at first I am going to go to the Aviation University in Moscow, then when I finish studding I’ll go to my country to try to get a job in the air companies. You know may be something will be not OK, because I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, but I know that I’ll do everything to realize my plane and my dreams.

I also want to say that the profession should be chosen according to the character and hobbies of the person. That’s why parents mustn’t make their children choose the thing they like (parents like). Children must do it themselves. Because they must love the thing they do, believe that people need them and their job will bring them more pleasure.

After leaving school, millions of young people begin an independent life. They can start a working career, go into business or continue schooling to receive a degree. There is one institute or a few institutes in nearly every Russian city. There are dozens of them in Moscow and St. Petersburg. If you want to get a professional training you can enter a technical college. They say that there are over 2000 professions in the world, so it is quite difficult to choose and make a decision. Some follow their own choice and some follow their parents’ advice.
I have asked myself a lot of times: «What do I want to be when I leave school?» A few years ago it was difficult for me to give a definite answer. As the years passed I changed my mind a lot of times about which science or sphere of industry to specialize in. It was difficult to make up my mind and choose one of the hundreds of jobs to which I might be better suited.

What are the main reasons for choosing your future profession? First of all, it should seem interesting to you. An exciting job that you really like is an important component of happiness in life. Then you should consider the problem of earning a living. The most fascinating job will bring no satisfaction if you starve. And there is the very up-to-date problem of unemployment: you should choose a profession which will produce a job.

A couple of years ago I wanted to become a doctor. I thought it was a very interesting profession. I was good at biology and chemistry in the eighth and ninth forms. I wanted to help people who had problems with their health. I know that a doctor should be noble in work and life, kind and attentive to people, responsible and reasonable, honest and prudent. A doctor who is selfish and dishonest can’t be good at his profession. I tried to do my best to develop good traits in myself.

Now I have already decided what to do. I’d like to be a teacher. I know that it is very difficult to become a good teacher. You should know perfectly the subject you teach, you must be well-educated and well-informed. An ignorant teacher teaches ignorance, a fearful teacher teaches fear, a bored teacher teaches boredom. But good teachers develop in their pupils a desire for knowledge and love for truth and beauty. As John Steinbeck once said, «a great teacher is a great artist and you know how few great artists there are in the world». Teaching might even be the greatest of all the arts. It is a great responsibility to educate children. I think that’s the reason why teachers are deeply respected. I know that a teacher’s job is quite difficult.

A teacher is a person who goes on learning hisher subject during all hisher career to be able to answer any question and to be an example of competence.

More and more people realize that every educated person should know a foreign language. That’s why I’m going to become an English teacher. I liked English when we first started learning it, and it is still one of my favourite subjects. There are many English authors and they are so different and so interesting. We have had some Shakespeare and other British writers in Russian in classes of literature and I would like to read them all in the original. I will try to enter the department of foreign languages at the University.

Today, after Russia has joined the Bologna process, one can study 4 years to get a Bachelor’s degree and 2 years more for a Master’s. There are also more opportunities to study abroad, for example to spend one semester in a foreign University which is especially good when you study languages.

After your final exams in University you are a qualified teacher of English or interpreter. University education is deep and many-sided. Some students take a postgraduate course to follow an academic career.

Choosing a career is like any other activity: it is best to work to a plan. Too many people start looking for a specific job before thinking out their occupational aims. It is a good idea to begin by attempting to define in clear terms what your requirements are from a career. This involves taking a realistic view of your strengths and weaknesses. You may think for example, that you would like a job which involves organizing people, but liking such a job is not a sufficient justification if experience you already have may suggests that this is not your strong point. On the other hand, you should remember that training will equip you to do new things.

A further point to consider is how far you will be willing to do for a time things which you do not like knowing that they are necessary to achieve your longer term objectives. Having thought carefully about the sort of person you are, try to work out a realistic set of occupational requirements. In particular, you can answer to important questions. First: What sort of life do you want to lead? For example, do you want to live in the country or in the town? Is leisure time of great importance to you? Is the size of your salary important? Do you want to put down roots or travel widely? Second: What sort of work do you want to do? For example, do you like working alone or with others? Does teaching people appeal to you? Do you want to be an organizer of other people’s activities? Do you want to develop new ideas and initiate changes?

As for me, I have made up my mind to be an engineer. As my parents are engineers, they have made a great influence on my choice and I can say that this profession runs the family. My choice of this occupation didn’t come as a sudden flash. I think that nowadays this profession is of great need and importance to our country. It is my aim to be a qualified specialist and to serve the interests of my country. To be a well prepared engineer I should have some important qualities: great capability persistence, knowledge of science and of course knowledge of foreign languages. In spite of these arguments we mustn’t forget about everybody’s vacation. I think that my facilities combined with the knowledge would be quiet enough to succeed in my work.

Choosing a career is an extremely important step in every person’s life. People can choose their career taking into consideration a great variety of factors: their health state, interests and hobbies; the peculiarities of the region where they live; salary levels for different jobs; relatives and friends’ pieces of advice, etc.

I believe that one of the keys to success is starting to think about your future career as early as possible. A lot of children put off such decisions until the very last moment when there is already no time left to make the right choice. In my opinion, it is reasonable to begin making serious plans for the future when you are an eighth-grader.

As an eighth-grader, you have a bunch of opportunities to get ready for the future profession.

For example, in order to improve your knowledge of the subject that you are interested in, you can attend specific elective courses, take part in extracurricular activities, read additional books and Internet resources, watch educational videos and so on. You can also try and have some practice in your dream job.

As for my choice of future profession, I know for sure that I am going to be an economist. This sphere appeals to me very much, and I have already chosen a university that I want to enter in two years.

Choosing a career is an important and difficult thing. To make the right choice, young people try to understand what area they are interested in, ask their parents and friends for advice and also analyze what professions are needed at present in the region where they live.

People normally start making serious plans for the future when they are in high school. It is when they are already grown-up enough to take responsibility for their own life. But every person is unique: I know that there are people who start thinking about their future job much earlier.

Nowadays, we have a lot of ways to prepare for the future profession. For example, we can take additional classes, watch useful videos on the Internet or just get acquainted and communicate with the people who are good at that profession. If we do all that, we will learn a lot and will feel confident on our first day at work.

Personally, I have not given much thought to my choice of future profession yet. To be honest, I am in two minds now. On the one hand, I am interested in literature; on the other hand, chemistry appeals to me as well. So, I will probably base my decision on my performance in the tenth and eleventh forms.

Choosing a career is a challenging task indeed. It is all about finding the perfect match between your personality, interests, and skills. On the one hand, modern society, with its hundreds of professions and jobs, presents a vast range of future job opportunities. Industry and business, farming, science and education, medicine, service, arts and journalism are just a few professional fields a young person can specialize in. On the other hand, modern society with its crises, unemployment and inflation, makes a poor choice of profession a really bad mistake. You can choose a profession you really like, and face problems when looking for a job. Or you can find a job you like, but it will be underpaid. Besides, a young person’s parents usually have their own ideas of what career path to choose. Some parents are more democratic and let the child determine his future by himself. Some are oppressive and overprotective and try to force the child to make this or that career choice. In this case, they often try to compensate for their own dreams which have failed and the chances they have missed. Sometimes they see their child is gifted in some field and try to persuade him to choose this profession irrespective of the fact if he likes it or not.

In spite of all the problems mentioned above, the choice has to be made. To make it easier for the young people, there is some professional advice. It’s best for the young man to start this process as early as possible, ideally in the tenth form. You should determine if you would like to continue in higher education, or to learn a trade and look for a job. It’s up to the person to decide, but you should remember that to get more chances, you should strive for higher education which enables you to be qualified for skilled labour. You should determine what you might like to study or major in at college. You might like to try some of these career assessment tests to help with this step. You will surely also get suggestions from family, friends, and high school teachers and guidance counsellors. You also have to consider the demand for a particular career in the labour market. Choosing a career where there are limited job opportunities can greatly increase the challenges you will face.

Our educational system has hardly changed and there is hardly any vocational orientation explored in the system.
