A picnic is a kind of excursion that is arranged with friends and families in the scenic outdoors. Everyone gets together in a place, ideally a park or resort with a lot of open space, and cook meals and eat lunch together, play games, and spend a whole day making merry and memories. In tropical countries like India, families generally plan exciting picnics during winter holidays because, during that time, the weather remains largely pleasant. These picnics though apparently mere get-togethers have immense significance in our life. They allow us to take a break from our busy routine and spend time with our family which is very important for our mental and emotional well-being. In this essay, I shall talk about a family picnic that was probably one of the best days of my life.

Picnic Day With My Family

Last spring our whole family decided to go to a nearby park for a fun outing and a picnic at the same time. The day before the picnic we could no longer hold our excitement. We spent the entire day planning what we will do and what we will eat. Thinking about all the fun we were going to have made my heart flutter. 

The next day after packing our things we left our home at 8 am. The picnic spot was about 2 hours away from our home. We had packed delicious food prepared by my mother. On our way to the picnic spot, we played “antakshari” in the car. I could not wait to reach the spot.

Fun At The Picnic Spot

Finally at 10.30 am we reached the picnic spot. It was a beautiful land on the banks of a river. There was a large area of a green field with a lot of bushes and trees scattered here and there. The river and sky met at the horizon. There was a continuous flow of cool breeze blowing from the river to the banks. It was a mesmerizing sight to behold.

Me and my siblings, we started playing games with the adults including my mother, father, uncle and aunt. We played gully cricket and hide and seek. Soon the adults became tired so me and my siblings, we started racing across the fields.

Finally, we were too tired to play anymore. This was the time for the most amazing part of the picnic, the food. We had brought tasty home-cooked meals from our homes. We unpacked our food and divided it among ourselves. After so many activities my hunger had increased. The food tasted tastier than usual, maybe it was because of the company of the whole family, or maybe it was because I was very hungry. After completing our lunch all of us went for a boat ride. It was my first time riding a boat. At first, I was scared but then slowly I overcame my fear and started enjoying the ride. Then around 5.00 pm, we left for home.

The memories I gathered at the family picnic are some moments I will cherish all through my life. The picnic not only provided a break from the everyday mundane life but also made me happy and allowed me to spend some quality time with my family. I hope we can plan more picnics in the future.

But he said that he would himself climb a tree. He started climbing one with many branches. He reached its. top quite easily. He sat on the treetop and began laughing at us saying that we might also try to come up. Soon he started coming down. But, as he reached the middle of the tree, he found it difficult to move. Soon his foot.slipped and he fell down on the grass. As the ground was soft, he was not injured. He was very serious now, and he forgot all his earlier hits at us (remarks that he had passed on us).

We sat down on a grassy patch under tall trees and beside thick bushes. Having been tired by the exertion, we took a long rest. I even lay down and slept for a while. My other we companions also enjoyed some sleep. When we woke up, we were feeling fresh and active. We washed ourselves in the flowing water of the canal and then ate fruit. Then we started playing hide and seek around thick and tall trees. In the afternoon, we had some food and took further rest. In the evening, we returned home on bicycles, tired but satisfied at heart.

We photographed each other and the scenes around.

Many of us put our unfinished meals in the dishes on the ground. We started playing ludo and cards in groups and some sat in corners at ease discussing their future plans. And then there was lightning and thunder and a downpour (sudden heavy rain). We picked up our dishes and ran into the Baradari. I saw Miss Shabina slipping on the ground hurting herself. The girls ran to her help and picked her up and carried her indoors.

Some half an hour later, the sky cleared and the sun could be seen sinking in the west. Our teachers asked us to collect our articles and prepare to return, We did so, and they led, us to the boats into which we jumped in wild passion and joy. On the appointed day we set out for Lahore and reached there at about 10 am. We decided to go to the tomb of Noor Jahan, the great queen of India first of all. Surrounded by beautiful parks, the front portion of the tomb presented a magnificent look which reminded me of the lovely line from Keats, a famous romantic poet.

We crossed the magnificent garden to the entrance of the tomb and instead of going decided to climb the towers first. From the tower, we could see the city of Lahore which lay as one mass of different colors, of different shades and different heights. What surprised us most was the freshness and grandeur of the tomb which had been built more than three hundred years ago. It was awe-inspiring to see and feel that the place where we were three standing was actually the place like that fancy and imagination could be allowed run free. My own thoughts were wandering at that time. I was thinking

Then we want to the river of Ravi. It was flowing very peacefully. There were serenity and calmness everywhere. We spread a sheet and sat under a cool shady tree. There was a cool breeze indicating that somewhere not at a great distance it was raining. We decided to have a bath in the river. All of us were very good swimmers. Swimming is a very good exercise and we played as we swam in the river. It was really very interesting.[the_ad id=”17141″]

After the bath, we took our lunch after some time. Swimming had whetted our appetite already. My sweet cousin also with me. She was looking very beautiful after bathing. I got him aside from my other fellows. And took some patience with her. I had the feeling that

After meals, we took rest for a while. We had a mind to play cards. But unfortunately, we had forgotten to bring cards with us. Then we decided to walk around the gardens and fields singing all the way to the mango tree. The ripe mangoes attracted our attention and we had them to our fill. After sometime we decided to return. We reached home at night and were feeling tired. We are very happy that we had a very enjoyable time of our life during the whole day.
